My Parents Are Otakus Donghua Overview

The series will remind you that Chinese animation can be every bit of a Japanese animation too in its basic sense. My Parents are Otakus will give you the same feels of watching an anime from Japan because its story is one that we often see nowadays with many generic cliches.

It is also known as My ACG Parents, it is based on a manhua called Zhaifu Erdai (Otaku’s Offspring) which was written by Rakugaki. The manhua was published on February 13, 2015, until August 26, 2016; and can be read on its official pages on bilibili and Manman Manhua.

Tong Qi, a girl who has been indoctrinated with otaku culture by her parents since she was a child, tries her best not to have anything to do with “otaku”, but has always regarded her classmate, Yang Wei, as a pure three-dimensional sunshine boy, as her idol. One day, she heard the word “fujoshi” from the mouth of this “idol”. (Source: bilibili)

The series is a comedy and slice of life story which will revolve around themes such as otaku culture in a school setting. It follows the classmate Tong Qi and Yang Wei, who both have opposing views on otaku culture but they are bonded to each other because of the common elements that they shared with it.

My Parents are Otakus had been previously unveiled by bilibili as part of their 2021 Chinese anime lineup and was a group under its adapted works category.
