One of the most amazing Chinese animations we had from Tencent is coming back as it continues the quest for power and domination in this fantasy-adventure story of power struggles and political intrigues that is quite unique among its peers. Purple River Season 2 has unveiled new posters and a teaser trailer that gives so much hype for the fans to anticipate.

The new poster will give us a reminder of the HBO hit series Game of Thrones which I think the story itself seems similar to. It also boasts a vibe of Western fantasy which sets it apart from other fantasy donghua out there as it has a plot that we often find in many Chinese animations.

The battle of different factions continues and the drama and conspiracy will only get bigger and even more exciting as Purple River Season 2 promises to delve more into the reasons behind each character’s struggle and quest for power.

Synopsis

Two hundred years ago, on the Battlefield of the Blue River, the last remaining army of the Empire of Light collapsed in the midst of demonic outcries. As the last Field Marshal and Emperor fell, the chaotic world of the Western River no longer had a common ruler. Factions were formed and endless conflicts ensued, military might became the only currency of survival, and the dream to reunite the lands became the sole goal of many rulers in the generations that came after.

In the southeastern part of the land, a powerful faction with over two hundred years of history – House Zichuan – fought off the Demons to the east, defended against the House Liufeng to the west, and contained the House Lin to the south. In order to accomplish their great ambitions and extend the bloodline of their family, countless heroes of Zichuan gave their lives in order to make this magnificent hymn come to life. This is a story about this legendary family and a hundred years of their blood and tears.

The donghua adaptation of Lao Zhu’s novel Purple River was first released on December 21, 2021, and it was animated by Build Dream Studio with Tencent Penguin Pictures as the producer. The first season aired for 42 episodes and its sequel had been officially announced during the Tencent Video Animation 2023 Annual Conference.

Now, we should only have to wait until the production committee gives us further updates about the Purple River Season 2 release date. Until then, don’t forget to bookmark this page for updates or follow our main blog – Yu Alexius.
